God and Slavery

059God and Slavery

We who live in this country are all familiar with the history of slavery along with the atrocities that went along with this accepted policy of the time, especially our African American brothers and sisters. It was wrong then and will always will be. I know there are some who will say that there were slaves in the Bible and that is what I would like to discuss here.

In the Old Testament there were different kind of slaves. Some were captured during various wars and forced into slavery and endured very harsh treatment that endured their entire life. Then there were those who owed so much debt that they sold themselves into slavery rather than be put in debtors prison. These would remain a slave until the “Year of Jubilee.” A system that was instituted by God to cancel all debts¬† every fifty years. The last Year of Jubilee was the year 2000 however the bankers of the world are having no part of it. If you would like to read some of the fine print on this subject¬†check out this link:

Now there were some slave owners who treated there slaves with respect and honor and provided them a life better than they could provide for themselves so when the Year of Jubilee came they could go to their masters and voluntarily become a servant for life. At this time the master would place his ear against a door and pierce it with a awl and insert a gold earring signifying they were his property, not by force but by love.

Ex: 21:6. Every time I see some one walking around with one earring now I am always reminded of this.

Where am I going with this? The New Testament says in Gal:3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, bond or free or male or female if you are in Christ. Then in 1st cor:7:22 and 23 we are told that if you are a slave and know the Lord you are free and if you are a slave owner and know the Lord you are His slave, for we are bought with a price, His blood.

So you see Lucifer’s objective is to make us all servants of him but Christ has come to set us free and who He set free is free indeed.
